The Ricketts family purchasing the Cubs was great news for fans of the team for many reasons. One of those reasons is that the fans and the city now have somebody to hold accountable for the teams shortcomings. One of those shortcomings has long been the facilities at their home ballpark. The new Chicago Cubs owners plan on tackling this problem immediately.
While bigger and better enhancements are ahead for Wirgley Field, such as a batting cage for players, possibly new seating, and a higher quality of restaurants and gifts shops, more immediate upgrades are being made right now to ensure a better fan experience for the upsoming season.
The Ricketts family is planning an overall cleanup and renovation of the main concourse, and an overhaul of all the restrooms, which will increase the capacity of both men's and women's restrooms, they have added a new players lounge for the players, while slightly enlarging the home team clubhouse, they are looking into getting wireless internet installed at the ballpark, and they too are adding new, high defintion, LCD monitors around Wrigley Field.
This is just the start of a major renovation process, that could see the addition of up to 3,ooo seats, a "triangle builing" across the street from the ballpark, that would include batting cages for the players, restaurants, and gift shops for the fans, the renovation could also include repaving the concrete concourses, building a bar/restaurant beneath the right field bleachers, remodeling and enlarging the press boxes, and creating new suites for the fans to watch the game from. All this is hoped to be done by 2014, which is the 100 year anniversary of the opening of Wrigley Field. The Cubs new ownership group is already hard at work lobbying commissioner Bud Selig and Major League Baseball to allow the Cubs and Wrigley Field to host the MLB All-Star Game in July, 2014 during the anniversary season of the landmark ballpark.
There is no doubt that even the small enhacements being made now will improve the experience of watching a game at Wrigley Field immediately. It is clear to fans that the new ownership group cares about them and wants them to enjoy their experience at a Cubs game. Its about time Wrigley Field got a facelift.
