People have asked me about if I think Starlin Castro should start to open the season as the starting SS. Here is my response: Castro is 19 and turns 20 in March; the Rangers' Elvis Andrus is slightly older. Lou Piniella and staff have not seen Castro except for a few games in the Arizona Fall League. This spring, they'll get to know him, see him play, and watch how he handles game situations. It's a cliche, but players tell you when they're ready. Piniella is not afraid to give a youngster a job -- he picked Theriot -- but Castro has to prove he can handle it. Prospects that will be invited to Mesa for ST: Starlin Castro Andrew Cashner Josh Vitter Brett Jackson J.R. Mathes James Russell Casey Coleman Thomas Diamond Jeff Kennard Vince Perkins Robinson Chirinos Steve Clevenger Blake Lalli Chris Robinson Darwin Barney Matt Camp, Bryan LaHair Bobby Scales Brad Snyder

Guess I don't know the Cubs minor league system as well as I thought I did. ----- COMMENT: AUTHOR:Blogger asovermann DATE:2/09/2010 02:31:00 PM The top 4 were all 1st rounders i believe maybe not castro ----- --------
