Hello Heaters, today we are going to explore the history of the place that the St.Louis Cardinals call home,Busch Stadium. Busch Stadium, also known as Busch Memorial Stadium ,was built on May,25,1964,and was completed in 1966.The Original Busch Memorial Stadium was demolished in 2005,and a the "New Busch" was opened in 2006. From 1966 to 1981,the Stadium was called Civic Center Busch Memorial Stadium. The Original Busch homed the bronze statues of Stan Musial,Enos Slaughter,Dizzy Dean,Rogers Hornsby,Red Schoendist,Lou Brock,Bob Gibson,James "Cool Papa"Bell,George Sisler,Jack Buck, and Ozzie Smith. The stadium was originally built with natural grass, but due to St.Louis's humid summers,it was replaced with astroturf in 1970. The Original Busch was also home to the NFL's St.Louis Cardinals from 1966 until they moved to Arizona in 1987.The St.Louis Rams also played at the original Busch for four games in 1995,due to the delay of the RCA Dome's opening. The Original Busch also hosted the World Series in 1967,1968,1982,1985,1987,and 2004. The Original Busch is also where Mark McGwire hit his 62nd,and 70th homer runs in 1998. It is also where Barry Bonds broke the "Curse of The Bambino" in 2004.Needless to say,the History created at Busch Memorial staduim was indeed illustrious. Hopefully the "New Busch" can help create some of its own unique memories in the future.
